The Infinity Sign in Annihilation

Annihilation is a 2018 science fiction movie directed and written by Alex Garland. It is based on the novel by Jeff VanderMeer and features amazing performance of Natalie Portman, as well as a team of other actors. In the course of the movie, one can notice a figure 8 tattoo placed on Lena's (Natalie Portman) left forearm. On that tattoo, the infinity is represented as a snake eating its own tail (known as Ouroboros) which symbolizes the cyclical nature of life and self-destruction in the film. It is a mark of the infinite circle of evolution and changes.

Ouroboros is an ancient symbol depicting a serpent, dragon or snake eating its own tail. The symbol represents the continuous cycle of life and destruction and it has been used in various cultures throughout the history. The word derives from an ancient Greek word meaning "tail-devouring". It also was illustrated in various versions of the infinity symbol. In modern times, the ouroboros symbol is often found as a tattoo or jewelry decoration. For example, The X-Files' Dana Scully has got a tattoo of Ouroboros in the episode "Never Again".
